The Ten Encounters
The Ten encounters cycle stems from the practical part of the PhD dissertation and it invokes the ten evangelic encounters of Jesus and his mother. Through this cycle I talk about personal motivation and the importance of a mother-to-child relationship, but also about my attitude towards the offered Gospel topics. I tried to distance myself from the mimetics and, with my artistic expression, inspire the observers to contemplate and express their own attitude on the presented work. I move the focus from the iconographic (display) to the iconological, emanating and purely energetic aspect. The use of reduced, elementary and the forms simplified to the level of concept contributes to this process. The perforations and applications on the painting surface can be perceived in these paintings, along with the virtualization of the painting surface, the irrationalization of the iconological layer of the image, and the author’s iconographic archetype.
